Tales of Rathe: Kassai
(Kassai of the Golden Sand | Art by Alexander Mokhov)
Each living soul in Rathe has a family, a purpose, a story. And so do our heroes. Through Tales of Rathe, we’ll get to meet each hero again, through a story from their perspective. Let’s take a look at Kassai and her story.
Volcai. Dracai. It was all the same to me. Just a body soon to be headless. Just a scream erupting from a warrior’s throat. Another coin in my purse. And I needed plenty.
My future was supposed to be certain. A life of wealth and happiness, my family by my side as I stood in front of an army that listened to my every command. It was supposed to be a life passed down to me by my father, one of the most powerful generals of Volcor.
Until that future was stolen from me by one of the people my father trusted most – his own lieutenant. And so I ran.
With no food or water in the golden sands of the desert, the Cintari took me in – my years of training, war etched into the very fabric of my being, a useful tool for them. My skill in exchange for copper. The blood on my hands in exchange for a new purpose. It was then I hatched my plan – my reason.
He would pay.
These days the name Kassai means little to me. I go by ‘The Terror of the Golden Sands,’ and it has a nice ring to it. The arena chants my new name and I count my coins. Waiting for the day when I will have enough to own an army and take it to the doorstep of the man who ruined me.
The Deathmatch Arena is my new workplace, if you will. And each bloody step I take in that arena is a step closer to true vengeance. I will avenge my family, I will avenge my father.
I will show him, all of them, just how sharp the Golden Sand is and just how deep it cuts.
