While we&#8217;re boosting into <em>Bright Lights<\/em> and the odder brews are still being worked on, why not have a look at some more&#8230; traditional potions and trinkets from a while back? Just keep an eye out for <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Mischievous Meeps\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Mischievous Meeps<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Mischievous Meeps\"><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>Chugging Potions<\/h2>\n<p>Delving into potions from <em>Everfest<\/em> and <em>Welcome to Rathe,<\/em> there are plenty that see play and some still tucked away. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Potion of Luck\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Potion of Luck<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> has its home in <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Valda Brightaxe\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Valda<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and any other Guardian using <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Earthlore Bounty\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Earthlore Bounty<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> to make Seismic Surges. Additionally, any other odd deck that may want a mulligan will benefit from the brew.<\/p>\n<p>For a few more interesting gimmicks, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Potion of Seeing\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Potion of Seeing<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> with <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Chains of Eminence\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Chains of Eminence<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Censor\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Censor<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> could potentially make for a few blowout turns. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Potion of Strength\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Potion of Strength<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is strength pot; it&#8217;s not always used but can help squeak out damage when staring down decks more inclined to block. While I think <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Potion of D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Potion of D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> was a mistake because <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Kano\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Kano<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> gets way too much use out of it, outside of Kano it can make for a very interesting patterns of play. For example, you can pitch a card to play next turn or stack a powerful arrow on top of the deck for <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Azalea\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Azalea<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> to give it dominate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Energy Potion\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Chains of Eminence\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Potion of Seeing\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Energy Potion\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Energy Potion<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is a handy option that lets a lot of decks produce a slightly stronger turn with fewer cards from hand, and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Clarity Potion\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Clarity Potion<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> helps you set up rabbles, arrows, or other things that rely on the top of the deck. Draws off of <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Sink Below Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Sink Below<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> or <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Crown of Providence\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Crown of Providence<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> can be helped by the extra opt as well. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Potion of Ironhide\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Potion of Ironhide<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> seems a bit odd for a deck that wants to block but letting a three block for four is very handy for conventional breakpoints. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Healing Potion\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Healing Potion<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>? Just don&#8217;t. In all seriousness it&#8217;s very hard to find a reason to play Healing Potion over cards such as <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Sigil of Solace Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Sigil of Solace<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> or <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Healing Balm Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Healing Balm<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Timesnap Potion\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Timesnap Potion<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is good for dealing with Illusionst without giving up your boots for time skippers or letting a deck without copious amounts of go again do an extra thing in their turn.<\/p>\n<h2>Triggering Talismans<\/h2>\n<p>Now that we&#8217;ve gone over the potion racks, it&#8217;s time to look into the more unusual trinkets, starting with Talismans. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Balance\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Balance<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, like with the rest of the Talismans, has innate go again, allowing them to be played without immediately ending your turn. Starting with balance, this allows you to refill your arsenal if your opponent has an arsenal, giving you a little means of recouping some gas after an offensive turn as long as they didn&#8217;t use their arsenal. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Cremation\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Cremation<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is a little more niche than balance, allowing you to banish all copies of a card from your opponent&#8217;s graveyard, so long as you played a card from banish.\u00a0 Shadow heroes benefit the most from this Talisman more than any other hero might.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Dousing\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Dousing<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is an interesting item, as long as you don&#8217;t mind putting a card that doesn&#8217;t block in your inventory, it provides Spellvoid 1 while on the field so that you can absorb a little more arcane damage from decks that enjoy handing it out. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Featherfoot\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Featherfoot<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> allows little attack reaction buffs such as <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Lunging Press\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Lunging Press<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> to also grant your attack go again on top of the attack buff that it hands out. While not much, sometimes a small swing in your favor can bring a lot of tempo with it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Talisman of Balance\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Talisman of Tithes\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Talisman of Cremation\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Playing a lot of reds? <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Recompense\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Recompense<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is here to save the day by letting one of your red pitches generate three resources instead, leaning into an aggressive deck that can pitch a little bit better than it should a few times in the game. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Tithes\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Tithes<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is a bit of a tricky one to evaluate. While punishing people that use your turn to fix and filter their hand with <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Sink Below red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Sink Below<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Crown of Providence\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Crown of Providence<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> is a good prospect, this tiny trinket can do even more. Using Talisman of Tithes with <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Coax a Commotion\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Coax a Commotion<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> or <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"This Round&#8217;s on Me\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">This Round&#8217;s on Me<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> turns the symmetrical card draw into <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Snatch Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Snatch<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and keeps your opponent off of five-card hands.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Talisman of Warfare\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Talisman of Warfare<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> seems promising as it offers arsenal disruption for both you and your opponent, it is by far the easiest Talisman to play around. Not only does Talisman of Warfare have to sit on the board to destroy arsenals, it has to deal two damage; no more, no less. Requiring a specific amount of damage even for a potent effect makes it a bit unwieldly as it is up to your opponent most of the time if you&#8217;re dealing exactly two damage or not.<\/p>\n<h2>Activating Amulets<\/h2>\n<p>With potions and talismans out of the way, let&#8217;s go over the last of the items that fear the Meeps. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Assertiveness\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Assertiveness<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> can turn a attack from arsenal into a potential extra attack for the turn, which can also activate Talisman of Cremation to banish a card out of the opponent&#8217;s grave as well. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Earth\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Earth<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, while locked only to Earth talented heroes, can enable cards like <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Force of Nature\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Force of Nature<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> or just force through a little extra damage, as long as you fused with Earth this turn. <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Echoes\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Echoes<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, like many of the other trinkets is a bit situational but can punish your opponent for recurring cards with something like <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Rattle Bones\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Rattle Bones<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> or simply drawing multiple copies in one hand of a card in different colors.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Havencall\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Havencall<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> can extend your survivability if your hand is already empty from having to block out your opponent&#8217;s turn by pulling <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Rally the Rearguard Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Rally the Rearguard<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> out of the deck and onto the current chain link to block. While suspended in Classic Constructed until <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Iyslander, Stormbind\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Iyslander, Stormbind<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> reaches Living Legend, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Ice\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Ice<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> always removes a card from your opponent&#8217;s hand, provided you&#8217;ve Ice fused this turn, and provided they have no floating resources when you activate it. Even if you have to wait a turn to apply its effect, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Ignition\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Ignition<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> provides a discount on whatever you plan to do with your turn so long as you remember to activate it before doing anything else. With the introduction of <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Morlock Hill\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Morlock Hill<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Oasis Respite Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Oasis Respite<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Intervention\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Intervention<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> seems to be strictly worse than both of the other options. Intervention still provides an additional point of block when you are being threatened with lethal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Amulet of Ignition\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Amulet of Havencall\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Amulet of Lightning\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Giving go again with <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Lightning\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Lightning<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> seems pretty good right? Until most Lightning cards already have go again. With most fused targets having go again, Lightning still has a few cards that can help, such as <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Frazzle Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Frazzle<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Snap Shot Red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Snap<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>. Some of these knick-knacks have far more interesting and potent effects than the rest of them, and then there are the others like <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Amulet of Oblation\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Amulet of Oblation<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, while being able to pop cards with phantasm an extra time or keeping yourself from fatigue by an extra card, can be a very versatile effect, though the requirement of having a card already hit the graveyard on the turn of activation makes it more restrictive than you might want it to be.<\/p>\n<h2>Chasing Steam Trails<\/h2>\n<p>With <em>Bright Lights <\/em>just around the corner bringing plenty of new items to the game for Mechanologist, it&#8217;s interesting to see the options everyone has up to this point. With plenty of tools for every strategy, adding in some non-blocks to bolster a plan might just be what you need&#8230; just remember to not let Meeps run off with them&#8230; or <span class=\"edhrecp__link reverse\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Invoke Kyloria\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Kyloria<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> either.<\/p>\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards side-by-side\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Invoke Kyloria\"><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Items are on the menu in this edition of The Alchemist&#8217;s Coffer.
