Bold knights, dangerous magicians, and those who blend the arcane and the blade.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1682\" src=\"https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-1024x712.jpg\" alt=\"The official map of Rathe.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-1024x712.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-768x534.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-1536x1068.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fabrec.gg\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Map-of-Rathe-2048x1424.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>One area on the map of the known world of Rathe stands out: <a href=\"https:\/\/fabtcg.com\/world-of-rathe\/metrix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metrix<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fabtcg.com\/world-of-rathe\/pits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Pits<\/a>. Breaking beyond other fantasy tropes, Metrix has incredible technological advancements, including long-distance communication within the city, plasma weaponry, and even mechs.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Signal Jammer blue\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Teklo Plasma Pistol\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Construct Nitro Mechanoid\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Mechanologists are described as &#8220;believers, above all else, that human ingenuity alone will lead to a better tomorrow.&#8221; Not gods. Not magic. Not the secrets hidden in the Demonestary nor the ancients of old. No, the future depends on the minds of humanity and their inventions.<\/p>\r\n<p>So, any human? How about a wayfinder from Aria, a warrior from the Savage Lands, or a ninja from Misteria? Can they utilize the technological advancements from the &#8220;City of Tomorrow?&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Dash, Inventor Extraordinaire\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Plasma Mainline\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Absorption Dome\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<h2>The Mechanologist Theory<\/h2>\r\n<p>One theory from the earlier days of <em>Flesh and Blood<\/em> states that this could be the case. As expertly outlined by the editor of our friends over at The Rathe Times, Alex Truell describes the <a href=\"https:\/\/rathetimes.com\/articles\/the-mechanologist-theory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mechanologist Theory<\/a> as the fascinating idea that Mechanologist may be a talent instead of a class.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Dorinthea\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Ironsong Determination\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Lumina Lance\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Typically, a hero&#8217;s border art reflects where they&#8217;re from. You can see above how <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Dorinthea\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Dorinthea<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>&#8216;s border does not match the border of Warrior cards like <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Ironsong Determination\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Ironsong Determination<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>. <br \/><br \/>Where a hero is from usually gives us an idea of the talents from that area. For example, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Dorinthea\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Dorinthea<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Boltyn\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Boltyn<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Prism\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Prism<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> all share the border of Solana and all Light talent cards.<\/p>\r\n<p>But what about Mechanologists?<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Professor Teklovossen\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Dissolution Sphere yellow\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Meganetic Shockwave\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>It appears the Metrixian border art from the city&#8217;s heroes is also used on the other Mechanologist action and reaction cards.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Dual Class or Talent<\/h2>\r\n<p>If this theory is true, we could see a future of Mech-Warriors, gadget-fitted Rangers, biologicially-enhanced Brutes, and more. I wrote about the possibility of a Batman-like character that would be a <a href=\"https:\/\/collisionpoint.blog\/2022\/02\/09\/speculating-mechanologist-ranger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mechanologist-infused Azaela before<\/a>. With cards like <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Optekal Monocle\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Optekal Monocle<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Zoom In red\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Zoom In<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> to assist with Opting cards, Mech-Rangers could find the arrows they need for any given situation.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Blade Runner red\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Take Aim red\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Expendable Limbs\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Mechanologist being a talent would be quite an evolution in deck building for <em>Flesh and Blood<\/em>. It would revitalize whole swaths of the non-rotating card pool. As we learn how Metrix is involved in the war for the dawn, we could see tech from the city arriving all over Rathe (just as the <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Hanabi Blaster\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Hanabi Blaster<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> was gifted to the <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Emperor, Dracai of Aesir\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Emperor, Dracai of Aesir<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> in Volcor).<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Hanabi Blaster\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Emperor, Dracai of Aesir\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>In the game, this tech could be how LSS grants us dual-class characters or Mechanologist-talented heroes.<\/p>\r\n<h2>About That New Mechanologist Border<\/h2>\r\n<p>In case you missed it, the Mechanologist preview cards from <em>Bright Lights<\/em> have a new border on them.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"edhrecp__cards\"><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Terminator Tank\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Meganetic Protocol\"><\/div><div class=\"edhrecp__card-container\" name=\"Pulsewave Protocol\"><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>What does this mean?<\/p>\r\n<p>One possible answer is that LSS is correcting their mistake from <em>Arcane Rising<\/em> when they made the Metrix border (<span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Dash\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Dash<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>) the same as the Mechanologist class border (<span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Powder Keg\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Powder Keg<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>). If this is the case, then the theory dies.<\/p>\r\n<p><span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Teklovossen, Esteemed Magnate\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Teklovossen, Esteemed Magnate<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> shares the same border as <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Data Doll MKII\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Data Doll MKII<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"edhrecp__link\"><a class=\"edhrecp__link-a\" content=\"Dash\"href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\">Dash<\/a><span class=\"edhrecp__link-image\"><\/span><\/span>, so that should hold as the Metrixian border. So the only other possibility for these new bordered cards is that they reflect an aspect (Essence) of the Mechanologist class\/talent &#8211; Evos.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Metrixian Mobile Suit Evos<\/h2>\r\n<p>In <em>Tales of Aria<\/em>, LSS introduced the Elemental talent. Unlike Light and Shadow from <em>Monarch<\/em>, Elemental heroes harnessed one, two, or three revealed essences: Earth, Ice, or Lightning.<\/p>\r\n<p><em>Bright Lights<\/em> is our first set exclusively from Metrix. While there&#8217;s still a chance that a talent from the City of the Future could be revealed, I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s likely in what is marketed as a gateway-sealed product for new players.<\/p>\r\n<p>With the new <a href=\"https:\/\/fabtcg.com\/articles\/evo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crack, Shuffle, Play<\/a> format, playing <em>Flesh and Blood<\/em> with <em>Bright Lights<\/em> can be as easy as opening three booster packs, selecting a hero, choosing a weapon, and playing. This method simply wouldn&#8217;t work if some of the heroes were from other classes or had a different talent.<\/p>\r\n<p>Therefore, I think the new border is there just to tell us that these cards are for the Evo archetype, not all Mechanologist decks to consider. Additional Mechanolgist aspects that we could see borne out through <em>Bright Lights<\/em> or future expansions are teased on the Metrix lore page &#8211; biomancy and alchemy.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Wrap Up<\/h2>\r\n<p>Metrix is hiding many secrets for the lore to unfold and for the cards to explore. Mechanolgist may be a talent or a unique class.
