Let’s Meet the Teams of Flesh and Blood

United We Stand

Teams and Their Goals

It’s displayed front and center on the official website: “Come meet like-minded gamers, connect with the global FAB community, and experience the joy of playing great games in the flesh and blood.”

As players, we feel this mission statement in our core. We jump at the chance to explain the Flesh and Blood double entendre to new players. We gossip about the next set with anyone who will listen. And we can’t wait to travel the world with our friends.

For some of us, these friends have come together to form teams, brought together by some aspect of the mission statement. All of a sudden a friend is now a teammate, someone whose goals have coalesced with yours into one focused force. What are those goals? Well, I asked the community and heard back from plenty of teams*, and I can’t wait to introduce them to you all.

*This is not a definitive list of all teams in Flesh and Blood. It’s solely composed of those who responded to the questionnaire.

How was the team formed?

Our team was formed as a way to start preparing for bigger events but also get more engagement with the game. We’re passionate about enjoying the game and the community as a whole and for me personally (Kiki) I wouldn’t be as invested in this game if it wasn’t for these friends of mine.

What is the team’s goal?

Our goal as a team are to develop as players as I’m sure most teams aim to do. We have 2-3 people in our team qualified for Worlds this year. But I think beyond the game, we also work towards building our relationship with the game and it’s players. Our team doesn’t work exclusively within our group, and will often play and exchange information with other groups in the hopes that we can be beneficial to each other too (Especially with Xavier being in Japan).

Team Commonwealth [Global]

Top Finish: 50+ Tier 3 Top 8s

How was the team formed?

Originally the DragonShield team comprised of myself (Tariq), Nick, Matt and King Rob in early 2022. As life events occurred Rob had to take a step back from gaming and Isaak was brought on until his hiatus from the game following his 2023 Nationals title. With King Rob on hiatus, everyone was from a Commonwealth nation so we jokingly dubbed ourself “The Commonwealth”. Even after we added our 2 American friends, Evan Herndon and Jacob Baugh, the name had already stuck.

What is the team’s goal?

In our group, we have never specifically discussed future goals in terms of tournament finishes or accolades. Dilks once mentioned that what makes our group different is that we keep it fun. The minute it becomes “work” or “tedious” it all falls apart. For me, the most valuable aspect of our group isn’t the innovative deck creations or strategic breakdowns. It’s the fact we can always find something to laugh about in literally any situation.

What is the team’s goal?

Our goal right now is to get one of our team members into the Top 8 of a Pro Tour/National tournament. We’ve gotten close, but not quite there. We also want to continue to be at the forefront of testing strategies that surprise tournaments, like Jordan Long getting to day 2 with aggro Viserai at Pro Tour LA.

The Silver Gambits [Nevada]

Top Finish: Calling: San Jose Top 64

How was the team formed?

The Silver Gambits were born from our tight knit community who, after a busy competitive season, wanted to travel under one banner and have one name to boast. Our biggest community achievement yet has been hosting a completely self-funded four round & top 4 tournament with trophy prizing, food, and top-table streaming & commentary.

What is the team’s goal?

Our goal has always been to spread the gospel of the wild west: kick your boots up with friends, shoot for the stars, and always take the gambit.

Time Wrong Deck [Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil]

Top Finish: Pedro Ugioni – Top 14 at Worlds: Barcelona

How was the team formed?

The team just gathers all the players from Florianópolis who want to engage in competitive FaB, but the main purpose to form the team was the preparation for Nats 2023.

Our main goal always is having fun at the events, not from just playing the games, but also cheering to the other members, and celebrating the results.

Tri-Shot Gaming [Global]

Top Finish: BH: New Jersey Winner

How was the team formed?

Just a bunch of buddies that enjoy playing cards together! Decided to start trying to get more competitive since starting FaB in July 2023.

What is the team’s goal?

Short term goal would be winning some Pro Quests coming up and long term would be Top 8 finishes (hopefully wins) in any Tier 3 or 4 events!

Wolfpack [US-Based]

Top Finish: World Champion 2022

How was the team formed?

It’s a long story…

What is the team’s goal?

Our goal is to perform as well as we can while having as much fun as we can. We put a big emphasis on communication and trust between teammates so that we continue to enjoy the process and each other. We strive to be the kind of competitors we would want to play against.

Something for Everyone

As you can see, there are plenty of stories and plenty of goals that might sound close to home. And if you’re not on a team, don’t worry. You’re always a part of the Flesh and Blood family at large.
